Objective

Position Care New England as a leading advocate of recovery and a primary source of addiction services.

Project Overview

Together Make It Better focused on educating the Rhode Island community about substance abuse and recovery. Individuals were asked to make a promise on the campaign website, TogetherMakeItBetter.com, or at one of the events Care New England sponsored, like the Rally 4 Recovery in Providence on September 21, 2013, which drew more than 10,000 people into the city to celebrate freedom from addictions.

Promises to the campaign came from people of all walks, including Governor Lincoln Chafee and former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, who vowed to help others, get educated about addictions, or work on their own recovery.

Care New England also partnered with La Salle Academy in Providence where high school student Alex Chace spearheaded an effort to get every one of the teachers and students at the school to make a promise. With Chase’s help, CNE conducted presentations throughout the day to the freshman class which included information about the campaign, a talk about the effect alcohol and drugs have on the body from residents from Kent Hospital’s Emergency Department, as well as an opportunity for students to experience simulated effects of substances on the body by wearing special goggles while attempting to go through an obstacle course.
